Our Favorite Children’s Books

EVERYONE HAS A BOOK that was special to them as a child, whether it’s a pict
ure book their parents read to them or a novel that set off their imaginations. That’s why we decided to go back in time and reminisce about the books we most cherished when we were children! Dr. Alvarez

  • What was your most favorite book as a child?   Pipi Longstockings
  • What made you love it so much? Her imagination, unconventional take on things and adventuresome spirit. 
  • Do you have a special memory tied to that book? I dressed up as Pipi Longstockings once
  • How long has it been since you read it?   Oohhhhhh a few decades! 

Vilma

  • What was your most favorite book as a child?   Nacho
  • What made you love it so much? It taught me reading and writing  
  • How long has it been since you read it?   3 months ago! I found it in my house!

Ashley

  • My favorite book as a child: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
  • What made you love it so much? I love that it is such a bright and colorful book; it always got my attention and made me want to read it.
  • Do you have a special memory tied to that book? My nana and I are super close and the memory I have tied to that book is that it was at my nana’s house. So, whenever I would go to visit her, we would always sit down and read it together no matter what time of day it was.
  • How long has it been since you read it? It has been a long time since I have read it; probably about ten years.

Hannah

  • What was your most favorite book as a child?   Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping
  • What made you love it so much? It was such a funny book!
  • Do you have a special memory tied to that book? I would call my sister Amelia because her name is Emily and they sounded similar to me!
  • How long has it been since you read it? So long ago, I can’t remember!

Kendall

  • What was your most favorite book as a child?  As a very young child it was “Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?” by Eric Carl.
  • What made you love it so much? I loved the illustrations. They were so colorful and fun!
  • Do you have a special memory tied to that book? I used to read it with my mom all the time. We had it memorized and we would sing the words together. At the end of the book it shows a teacher and I used to always pretend that the teacher was my mom. I also “casted” my friends and family as the other animals in the book.
  • How long has it been since you read it? Probably 20 years!
